Hey, digital download pop kids! Don't buy this if you're not buying a record, please take a trolley to
thephotocopies.bandcamp.com and go bonkers! (Unless you want to give us a grand for being ace, of course...)
Hello! The Ultra Modern Label is proud to present its debut release. Straight outta Detroit (via that there London) come The Photocopies, blasting C86/twee/noisepop in all directions but with a distinctly 21st century sensibility. Essentially one man, that man being Sean Turner (one time electropop legend and early Human League authority), The Photocopies have been throwing fuzzy pop nuggets out into the universe at a frankly alarming rate over the past 18 months or so... enough to create four bursting-at-the-seams compilation CDs, in fact. This 7" EP features three of the songs which we (me) at The Ultra Modern Label fell for instantly very early on, which just *had* to be put onto a proper record, along with some newer compositions which are just the tip of a particularly excellent iceberg. The 7" is expertly and individually lathe cut at
plastidisc.com onto 2mm transparent PET-G, with a hole in the middle which is compatible with all good record players. It comes in a polythene bag with a colour fold-over cover which handily prints the lyrics on the inside so you can sing along. Super-early birds also have the possible chance of an extra 5" disc containing three more songs recorded at extra-fuzzy 33rpm. Of course, being 2023, you also get digital downloads of the whole shebang, including a slightly worrying video for 'I Don't Want You To Want Me'. Plans are already afoot for another Photocopies 7" waxing, featuring all-new material, but that'll be a bit later in 2023. For now, grab one, put it on and TURN IT ALL THE WAY UP. In a just world this will get to number one, then into minus figures... and heaven knows what happens after that. Phil might know.
